Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce Announces
Six Candidate Endorsements for 2020 Election Season
EAGAN, MN – The Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce today announced it has endorsed six candidates who are running for elected office in the upcoming November elections. The chamber reached out to engage with candidates running for local and state offices who then submitted formal endorsement requests and also provided additional information. The chamber’s board of directors then voted on each endorsement upon receiving recommendation of the public affairs committee.
“This is an incredibly important election for Minnesota as we deal with both the impact of COVID and its effect on our economy at all levels,” said Maureen Scallen Failor, president of the Dakota Regional Chamber of Commerce. “We believe it’s important as a key stakeholder for our members to be engaged in the process to review candidates and to find ways to make sure there are strong and effective voices to support issues important to the business community. The candidates we have endorsed are people we believe will bring important leadership to serve the entire community.”
Candidates receiving endorsements from the Dakota Regional Chamber of Commerce:
Luke Hellier, Lakeville City Council
Roz Peterson, House District 56B
Rep. John Huot, House District 57B
Sen. Greg Clausen, Senate District 57
Rep. Jon Koznick, House District 58A
Rep. Pat Garofalo, House District 58B
About the candidates
Luke Hellier, Lakeville City Council. First elected in 2016, Hellier has been a strong, business advocate on the Lakeville City Council.
Roz Peterson, House District 56B. Peterson previously served two terms in the State House from 2014-2018, along prior service on the ISD 194 School Board. Beyond her elected positions, Roz is extremely active in her community and is a previous chair of the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce, along with leadership roles in the Lakeville Chamber of Commerce. She is a past “Women of Excellence” award winner from the DCR Chamber.
Rep. John Huot, House District 57B- Rep. John Huot is running for re-lection in House District 57B. He has worked closely with major businesses in his district and has been an advocate for transit investment in Dakota County
Sen. Greg Clausen, Senate District 57- Sen. Greg Clausen is running for re-election in Senate District 57. He was the Senate author of the Dakota County bonding bill (a DCR Chamber priority) and worked tirelessly on securing the COVID funding for the MN Zoo and has been very active in the Chamber’s transit initiatives.
Rep. Jon Koznick, House District 58A- Rep. Koznick is running for re-election of House District 58A. Koznick is a three-term incumbent who has worked to support the Dakota County bonding bill in the MN House.
Rep. Pat Garofalo, House District 58B- Rep. Garafolo is running for re-election of House District 58B. Pat is an eight-term incumbent and is the current GOP-lead on the House Ways and Means Committee and will continue to be a strong voice in addressing the state’s budget deficit.
